Preservation, restoration and exposure of Bishop`s bridge, Veliko Turnovo city
Veliko Tarnovo city is the medieval capital of Bulgaria. Often referred to as the “City of the Tsars”, Veliko Tarnovo is located on the Yantra River and is famous as the historical capital of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom (1186-1396), attracting with its unique architecture.
As the oldest existing bridge in the region of Veliko Tarnovo city, the bishop’s bridge is one of the greatest examples for the strength of Bulgarian cultural background, the connection between us and our ancestors and also a wonderful place for pleasant and exciting walk.
The bridge is from the second half of the seventeenth century, rebuilt in 1981, there is a stone foundation and a structure, on which rests a ford of wood. The architecture of the bridge model is inspired by previous construction and made in Belgium, Holland and Germany.
